Ching Kai (b. 1980) is a Singapore-based artist whose work includes paper art, digital design, scenography, and photography. Notable projects include a six-panel digital animation at Supper House for Singapore Art Week 2023, cover art for NUYOU Magazine, and a collaboration for Macallan House’s launch at Raffles Hotel. His solo exhibition at Jane Provisions explored everyday objects through paper, while a three-meter installation examined themes of humanity and culture. His January 2025 exhibition in a Serangoon HDB flat made art accessible within domestic spaces, challenging artistic hierarchies.

The doll’s short haircut signifies strength, defying traditional notions of femininity and beauty. By embracing a modern material, the piece emphasises the potential for resilience and self-expression within marginalised identities. Ultimately, this work seeks to inspire people of all backgrounds and experiences to evolve beyond what they imagine, fostering hope and creativity in the pursuit of shared aspirations.
